What is Adsense?

What is adsenseFor those who do not exactly know what AdSense is, it is a way for you to earn some money with your website. If you have a blog, such as a WordPress blog, wouldn’t it make sense to earn some money from it to help you with your expenses in putting it up?

I have several websites that I operate with these type of ads and I am as happy as can be. I absolutely love the freedom and money it is providing. The income I produce daily, takes care of all my living expenses and then some. Please keep in mind that I have 5 kids, a wife and I live in Southern California. ;) It aint cheap!

Who knows, maybe the money you earn could even be much more than your expenses so that AdSense can become a way for you to make money even while you sleep or when you are on a vacation.

How do you earn money from AdSense, you say?

Well, it’s all about advertising because that is how Google makes money. Because it has become the most popular search engine, millions of people use it to search for information about anything.

So why don’t we sell them something that is related to their topic of interest? Makes sense, right?

Google offers its AdWords program to marketers who want to sell a product or service to these millions of searchers. You have a blog that has its own regular readers so the idea is to show some of these targeted ads to them. The marketers pay Google an amount of money based on the number of clicks their ads get.

Through its AdSense program, you paste a certain code provide by Google that automatically displays a few ads that are related to the topic of your site. If these ads get clicked by some of the readers of your blog, Google shares with you the money it gets from advertisers of the ads clicked.

AdSense and WordPress

Naturally, if you are a WordPress blogger, you might want to take part in AdSense too. It was previously thought that it was impossible to insert AdSense ads to a WordPress blog but this is not true.

There are several plugins that you can employ to do this and some people have even found a way to do this without plugins through the Widgets feature.

  • All you have to do is login as administrator and access the Appearance feature.
  • You then choose Widgets and you specify the kind of sidebar that you want.
  • You add a Text widget and then edit it so that you can enter the Caption.
  • In the body of this widget, you paste the code provided by Google, and voila! Google ads will now be displayed on your WordPress blog.

Plugins Galore

If you want a simpler way to insert Google ads to your WordPress blog, you may use plugins. Let us discuss a few of them here. You may use the Shylock Adsense WordPress plug-in to insert the ads without altering the template.

The Adsense Deluxe plug-in is an advanced tool for controlling the automatic insertion of the Google ads and you can even make these ads adjust to the color scheme of your blog.

Meanwhile, the Adsense Injection plug-in tries to insert the ad into any paragraph break in a particular blog page. If you have several pages, it will insert one Google ad per story but you can specify how many ads to display if you have only one post.

Hopefully this helped prime you to get ready to test that waters and see how muck money you can make?
